Dakota Fanning turns twenty-one today, and though she’s probably best known for her adorably precocious child star roles (she’ll always be the cutest ballet dancer) she’s been showing off her serious adult acting chops since the mid-2000s. 1. Hound Dog (2007)
This is the kind of movie role a serious child actress takes when she’s trying to distance herself from The Cat in the Hat. It’s incredibly hard to watch, but you can’t deny she gives a great performance.

3. The Last of Robin Hood (2013)
Fanning perfectly captures the air of a ’60s girl, they should have booked her on Mad Men.
