Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning turns twenty-one today, and though she’s probably best known for her adorably precocious child star roles (she’ll always be the cutest ballet dancer) she’s been showing off her serious adult acting chops since the mid-2000s. Here are some of her most underrated roles to remind you Fanning hasn’t been the cute I Am Sam kid in a long time

1. Hound Dog (2007)

This is the kind of movie role a serious child actress takes when she’s trying to distance herself from The Cat in the Hat. It’s incredibly hard to watch, but you can’t deny she gives a great performance.

2. Now is Good (2012)

The Fault in Our Stars, but British. How could that be bad?

3. The Last of Robin Hood (2013)

Fanning perfectly captures the air of a ’60s girl, they should have booked her on Mad Men.

4. Night Moves (2013)

Fanning doing what she does best-uping the unsettling factor.

5. Effie Grey (2015)

It was only a matter of time before she ended up in a British period piece.
