Today The DUFF, starring Mae Whitman is out, and even the critics who didn’t like the film overall agree Whitman gave a great performance. She’s been acting since she was a tiny child actress in When a Man Loves a Woman, and though many just know her as the Veal girl on Arrested Development, she’s actually had a really interesting career.
1. One Fine Day (Maggie)
Like in Hope Floats and Independence Day, here main job here was to look adorable, and she nailed it.
2. State of Grace (Grace)
Three years before Arrested Development, baby Whitman and Alai Shawkat starred as besties in the ’60s. It was wonderful.
3. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Roxy)
I mean, she got the best line in the whole movie.
4. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Mary)
A perfect foil for the quiet, soulful Charlie.

5. Arrested Development (Ann Veal)
Otherwise known as, Her?
6. Parenthood (Amber)
Hands down her best dramatic role to date.
7. Law and Order: SVU (Cassidy/Helen)
This episode was crazy even by SVU standards, and Whitman completely sold it.
8. Hope Floats (Bernice)
Oh my god those giant glasses.
