Sometimes the best part of award ceremonies is the speculation. Will your favorite actress take home a trophy? Will the actor who keeps getting snubbed finally have a victory? Here are some guesses before the Golden Globes air tonight.
Best Motion Picture, Drama: Boyhood
Boyhood could have easily ridden off the hype of its unique format (one child actor filmed for twelve years) so it’s impressive that most reviews only touched on that before going on to praise the film in and of itself.
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama: Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl)
Pike was completely chilling in this role. Gone Girl was the most suspenseful film of the year and, sorry Ben, there just wasn’t any other performance carrying it.
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama: Benedict Cumberbatch (The imitation Game)
Give the man some gold already! Though Cumberbatch was snubbed for his performance in Sherlock in 2012, it looks like his turn as British war hero Alan Turing might get him a Globe.
Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson is like the ant-Tim Burton, the more he sticks to his trademark style, the more critics and audiences love his work. Maybe it’s the bright colors?
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy: Michael Keaton (Birdman)
Keaton just brought so much energy to this role; impressive considering it’s a portrait of such a broken character.
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy: Amy Adams (Big Eyes)
Whatever you think of this particular role, Adams is due, and this wouldn’t be the first time the Globes gave an award for a body of work.
Best Animated Feature Film: The LEGO Movie
No animated movie was nearly as awesome last year.
Best TV Series, Drama: Game of Thrones
This will be the year the Globes recognizes the greatness of GOT goes beyond Peter Dinklage.
Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama: Viola Davis (How to Get Away With Murder)
Just give Viola Davis all the awards.
Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama: Clive Owen (The Knick)
Because not all great performances are also popular hits.
Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy: Orange is the New Black
For a series that made us cry almost more than it made us laugh.
Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy: Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin)
She just kind of lights up every scene she’s in.
Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy: Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent)
His performance was more serious than comical, but he nailed it either way.
