Thanksgiving is fast approaching and if you’re lucky enough to be heading home for the holidays, you’re in for one hectic weekend.
It goes with saying that the holiday is all about spending time with family – but if you’ve moved away from your hometown for college (or have friends that have made the move), chances are you want to log some time with them too. The question is: How do you pack for just one weekend while accounting for all the things you’ll be doing? Getting all the clothes you need is bad enough – what about makeup?
Luckily we’ve come up with a beauty look that will look totally parent-friendly for family time, fresh for catching-up-with-friends time, easy to maintain for face-stuffing time, and hot for when you run into that guy from high school who never gave you the time of day. It’s simple, portable, pretty, festive and versatile. What more could you want?
- Eyes: Keep your eye makeup simple. You probably rock that smokey eye like no other while you’re at school, but that look takes time and effort and will seize up tons of space in your carry-on. Anyway, that super-sultry look doesn’t quite fit the spirit of a pretty laid-back holiday. A few coats of mascara is really all you need to make your eyes look striking and defined.
- Face: When you head off campus, that’s a great excuse to give your skin a break. Leave your foundation at school if you can bear to part with it for a few days. Something worth packing? Concealer. It’ll cover up any evidence of a crazy night in case the night before Thanksgiving gets a little crazy. That way you can simply erase the dark circles that crop up as a result of
binge drinking at the local barcatching up with old friends.
- Blush or bronzer?: My vote? Go for bronzer. That way if your face puffs up a bit post-Thanksgiving-food-coma, you can throw a quick contour on the hollows underneath your cheekbones. Bronzer will also give your fading tan a nice little lift and the terra-cotta shade of the product will reflect the Thanksgiving color scheme so well.
- Go for a bold lip: The great thing about throwing on a deep lipstick is that you give your look something special with very little product. The added bonus? A tube of lipstick is tiny and so easy to throw in your bag. Plus, applying it is a one-step process. Opt for a orange-toned red to brighten up your entire face instantly – again, this is a great option as it picks up the colors we usually associate with Thanksgiving. Go for a lip stain (like this one), apply it before dinner and marvel at how it stays in place no matter how much turkey you eat.
And there you have it. A super simple, easy-to-apply, low maintenance makeup look that’ll work for whatever you have going on over the holiday weekend (you can even watch football in this look without looking totally overdone!) All you need is mascara, concealer, bronzer and one lipstick, so feel free to load your travel bag with snacks – you’ll have room for ‘em.
