And the ones that live in this country, who are part of the latest generation of immigrants in this country, I just pray that they can be treated with the same dignity and respect of the ones who came before and built this incredible immigrant nation.” — Best Picture winner, director Alejandro González Iñárritu (Note: many people believed this to be a direct response to Sean Penn’s ill-timed and poorly received “who have this son of a bitch his green card?” joke prior to the announcement of his name. But in a post-Oscar interview, González Iñárritu assured the world that they are indeed friends and that he “found it hilarious”.)
