Friday movie night as a kid wasn’t all Disney and Ferngully, there are plenty of kids flicks you might have loved when you were nine that just haven’t gotten their throwback due (and a few others you now, with the wisdom of age, realize you should have skipped in the first place).
1. We’re Back: A Dinosaur Story
You’ve blocked it out for good reason-the end is genuinely terrifying. But Julia Child does some of the voice acting, so.
2. Dennis the Menace
Between this movie and The Rugrats, the ’90s were a time for raising the worst babysitters.
3. Man of the House
Best left forgotten, this horrifying tone-deaf experiment in cultural appropriation imagines a kind of boy scouts troop of white suburban kids dressing up as Native Americans while their dads make racist jokes.
4. First Kid
The dated technology and specter of the evil chatrooms are worth the re-watch (if Sinbad wasn’t enough to convince you).
5. Kazaam
Why yes the is Weevil from Veronica Mars and the dude from the Goldbond commercials.
6. Cats Don’t Dance
The music in this one is really solid. Seriously, this would make a pretty good karaoke song.
7. Leave it to Beaver
Or maybe you were just distracted because it starred your middle school crush.
8. Mighty Joe Young
An obviously pre-Oscar role for Charlize Theron.
9. Quest for Camelot
Rocking some serious Black Cauldron vibes, you might have seen a poster for it in a season two episode of Buffy.
10. A Simple Wish
Yes, the cutest kid of ’90s film did have a post-Matilda film.
