Normally a musical number as the cold open is a bad move on SNL (and as Debbie Downer pointed out, a sure way to drag down the ratings), but Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake had just the right amount of energy and charm to kick off the special 40th anniversary episode with a song. The pair covered some of the show’s most famous sketches and characters from “Dick in a Box” to “The Ambiguously Gay Duo” all with a few kicks and some jazz hands. The song kicked off a memorable night full of clip-show nostalgia as well as revisiting old concepts with new material. But even if you didn’t catch the whole special, you can get the general idea with their song.
