Dating in college is unlike dating later on in life for several reasons. One of them? If you’re dating someone who goes to the same school as you do, chances are they live mere minutes away. Maybe they’re across campus (which is still super close by most standards) or maybe you both literally live under the same roof – if the latter is case, it’s equal parts amazing and not-so-amazing. Why? We’ve listed some reasons below.
PRO: You never have to go outside.
Three words: Sandals in winter. You can just traipse on down the hall in your gym shorts and tee shirt even when it’s gross and snowy outside. Talk about making the most of #cuddleweather.
CON: You never will go outside.
It’s super easy to get stuck in a rut when you’re dating someone. When you’re dating someone who lives in the same building as you do? That takes it to a whole other level. This might make you forget that a world exists outside your dorm.
PRO: You can spend every night together.
It’s too easy. Nothing – not bad weather, not tons of homework, not extreme laziness – can keep you from sleeping with your boo.
CON: You’ll feel like you always have to spend every night together.
You might start to feel like you need to stay up for him when he goes out and he might feel like he has to come by your place all the time. When it starts to feel like an obligation, it can put some strain on the relationship.
PRO: You can’t keep secrets from one another.
Has anyone ever successfully cheating on someone who lives in the same dorm? Probably. It just seems a lot more difficult.
CON: Twin beds.
Yes, they’re sort of inevitable if you’re living in a dorm. Still, living in the same dorm as your dude means you’ll be spooning in a tiny bed allllllll the time.
PRO: You’ll get to know each other’s roommates.
You’ll be a permanent fixture at each other’s places and getting to feel like your close to each other’s roomies can be really nice.
CON: Your roommates might start to hate you guys.
Having your significant other over all the time can definitely create tension.
PRO: You can figure out if you guys are right for each other.
You’ll get to really understand each other’s living habits and if you’re incompatible, it’ll quickly become clear (or at least it should.)
CON: It can be too much too soon.
Too much of a good thing can be disastrous, even when that good thing involves you and your man.
PRO: You can’t beat the convenience.
Duh.
CON: You have to worry about looking cute when you walk around the dorm.
At least in the early stages of the relationship. After that, it’s all out the window.
