Not into football? That’s no reason to skip watching Super Bowl XLIX! Besides being a great excuse to get together with friends on a Sunday night to munch on wings and pizza, there is plenty of entertainment for even the least sports-savvy watcher.
1. Idina Menzel is Singing the National Anthem
Maybe you know her better as Elsa? That’s right – the voice behind “Let It Go” from Frozen will start the game by singing the national anthem. The veteran Broadway performer who has appeared in Rent, Wicked, If/Then, and more will undoubtedly give a phenomenal performance.
2. The Commercials
This is the one time a year when you actually don’t want to miss the advertisements. According to Mike Ozanian of Forbes, it will cost $4.5 million this year for a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl and $9 million for a one-minute commercial. AKA, they’re going make sure they’re good.
3. Gisele Reaction Shots
Supermodel Gisele Bundchen will be in the stands supporting her hubby, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady so you can expect the cameras to find her a few times. Maybe there will be a few more celebrity fans at the game as well!
4. The Unpredictable
The Super Bowl has historically had some interesting things happening that everyone from your friends to your professors will be talking about come Monday morning. Remember Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” of 2004? Or the power outage in the second half two years ago? Anything can happen.
5. Katy Perry’s Halftime Show
Following Bruno Mars’ entertaining performance last year is Katy Perry, who has enough hits over the years to fill up the 12-minute spot. She’ll also have the help of Lenny Kravtiz…and maybe some surprise guests? You’ll have to tune in to find out.
