Carrie Underwood in The Sound of Music, Allison Williams in Peter Pan, and now this!
Vanessa Hudgens and Julianne Hough have joined the cast of Fox’s live staging of Grease, the hit 1978 feature adaptation of the 1971 original musical. Julianne will play the role of Sandy, while Vanessa, will play sassy Rizzo.
“Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” Julianne said. “My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I’ve had in my career so far.”
Julianne has previous musical experience, taking the lead in the movie adaptation of Rock of Ages. Vanessa also knows a thing or two about musicals from her role in the High School Musical movies. She’ll also make her Broadway debut in Gigi this year.
The leading ladies are cast, but the role of T-Bird Danny Zuko is still unclaimed. May I suggest Vanessa’s High School Musical co-star Zac Efron, perhaps? Or maybe Mr. Jeremy Jordan, a Broadway actor who will soon hit the big screen with Anna Kendrick in The Last Five Years?
We have a while to speculate: Grease: Live will air Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, but this cast looks worth the wait!
