This Christmas season, skip the heartwarming Christmas specials and go straight for the monsters, violence, and general wackiness.
1. Supernatural “A Very Supernatural Christmas”
Amongst the Christmas flashbacks that told fans what we already knew (Sam and Dean had the world’s worst dad, but it gave them a creepy strong brother bond), there’s a delightful storyline about killer pagan gods dressed in the same Christmas sweaters your 1st grade teacher always wore.
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Amends”
Willow wants to lose her virginity, Angel wants to kill himself, and Xander has to sleep outside to avoid his violent family, yet it all comes together with heartfelt holiday moment. Really.
3. Smallville “Lexmas”
The title alone is weird enough to land it on this list, but the Christmas-y dream sequence that involves a Lex and Lana multi-child family is like a piece of fan fiction come to life.
4. Glee “A Very Glee Christmas”
Oh it was so very Glee. Emotionally manipulative, full of wildly unbelievable story lines, but you will be singing along with the covers for weeks.
5. Community “Regional Holiday”
It’s not like any of the Community Christmas episodes (or any of the episodes, really) were normal, but this Glee send up was particularly strange. Sing-a-ling-a-ling.
6. Switch at Birth “Yuletide Fortune Tellers”
Pretty standard freaky-friday stuff, but goth Toby was the weirdest (plus the lack of romance for Bay and Emmett).
7. Veronica Mars “An Echols Family Christmas”
More Christmas specials should feature strip poker (because that’s what it ended up being) and a not-fatal stabbing by the carver.
