meeting parentsThe holidays might mean meeting your guy’s family. Don’t panic – even though it’s scary, it’s a good sign! If he’s introducing you to the ‘rents, he’s proud to show you off as his girlfriend. Here’s a few ways to guarantee everyone is as into you as your boy is.

Do Some Homework

Yes, I do mean stalk your boyfriend’s social media. Seeing pictures of his family members will help you remember their names and get a feel for what they are like before you even meet them. Also ask your guy some basic questions: What does the family like to do together? Are there any sensitive topics you should avoid? Do you call his parents by his last name or is it different?

Dress Like a Lady

This should be obvious but it can’t be overstated. While your boyfriend appreciates your body, his grandmother probably doesn’t. You can still look cute yet conservative. Also keep your hair and makeup pretty natural looking. As messed up as it is, people judge based on looks.

Participate

Whether it’s playing a board game with his younger siblings or listening to Grandpa’s story, showing interest in what they’re doing will look good. Acting like you’re too cool to engage in their activities definitely won’t score you any points.

Don’t Cling to Your Boyfriend

Make an effort to talk to and get to know the other members of the family. While they might ask a lot of questions about you because you are the fresh meat, be sure to let them speak as well. Ask about an interesting picture on the wall or a recent trip you know they took. Your guy will appreciate not having to play babysitter.

Offer to Help

Before you even go, ask your boyfriend if there’s anything you can bring such as an appetizer or dessert. Whether it’s in the kitchen or cleaning up, showing an effort to be a gracious guest doesn’t do unnoticed or unappreciated.

Be Yourself

Your guy likes you for who you are, so why be any different around his family? You might feel pressure to have things in common with them, but don’t pretend you’re a big Dodgers fan if you know nothing about baseball. You can still seem interested without being phony. They’ll be more than happy to fill you in and respect your honesty.
