Disney finally granted the wish of all Into the Woods super fans and released the first full length song from the movie, Cinderella’s (Anna Kendrick) “On the Steps of the Palace.” And as someone very wary of this movie after being burned by Les Miserables, I have to say, it’s pretty solid. I mean we already knew Anna Kendrick could sing (no, before Pitch Perfect) but so can Hugh Jackman, so apparently vocal chops aren’t enough to prevent a show tune massacre. Sure the lyrics are a little different (I see what you did there producers, but you can’t prevent a mass sing-a-long) but this is still the Sondheim I signed up for. I’d say this is definitely going to be worth the price of a movie ticket. I’ll wait until the premiere to judge whether it’s worth buying the soundtrack, too.
