It was a late Thanksgiving this year, and with the dishes done and less than a month until Christmas, it’s officially time to start your holiday viewing. If you want to save your Christmas movies (at least until December) try kicking off the season with some nostalgic ’90s holiday specials. Be warned, a few are heavier than you might have remembered.
1. Hey Arnold! “Arnold’s Christmas”
Why did you do this to us Nickelodeon? We just wanted some football-headed Christmas carols.
2. Rugrats “The Santa Experience”
It’s never too early to teach kids The Gift of the Magi.
3. Lizzie McGuire “Aaron Carter’s Coming to Town”
The start of a beautiful romance (that is still going on in Aaron’s world).
4. Boy Meets World “A Very Topanga Christmas”
To prepare you for the awkwardness of bringing your significant other home for the holidays.
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Amends”
One of the best quotes of the whole series, “Strong is fighting! It’s hard, and it’s painful, and it’s every day.”
6. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air “Deck the Halls”
’90s Christmas fashion at its finest.
7. Recess “”Yes, Mikey, Santa Does Shave”
You’ve got to love an elementary school holiday pageant that includes Yule.
8. The Babysitters Club “The Baby-Sitters Club’s Special Christmas”
Aka the juvenile diabetes PSA. But then they all come together in friendship! Very Christmas-y.
