Everyone’s second favorite Knowles sister tied the knot last weekend in New Orleans. The focus on her wedding is the most attention she’s gotten in years (minus her youthful pregnancy and the elevator incident). The obsession with her beyond chic as f. wedding made me wonder — are we all obsessed with the wrong Knowles sister?
While Queen Bey jet sets all over the country, Solange has set down some serious roots in New Orleans. Girlfriend has embraced the city, which means that she’s become a bonafide Marigny hipster (it’s basically like Williamsburg, only with more smelly gutter punks and v. low rent prices). She’s the one who fought Jay Z over (alleged) affairs he’s been having. And she’s the only human in the world who could wear a white jumpsuit to her wedding and completely own it.
Solange, 28, exchanged vows with music video director Alan Ferguson, 51 (#old), at the extremely hip Marigny Opera House, where Children’s Hospital star Lake Bell was married last year. She was surrounded by her A list family/extras from American Horror Story, including the most important member of any family on planet earth, Blue Ivy (who might be the best Knowles of all, only time will tell).
So, is Solange the sister America needs? Here’s the proof:
1. That Wedding
Those nuptials made Solange the queen, Bey the princess, and Blue Ivy a mere cutie patootie in their orbit.
Solange and her hubby arrived at their nuptials on vintage white bicycles, even though a wedding is no time to save money on gas, especially if you’re related to Queen Bey. Full disclosure: if my sister was that bootylicious, I would never allow her to wear white to my wedding, but it seems like Solange is much more forgiving than I would ever be (elevator incident included).
2. She’s The Most Diva
Girlfriend is the most diva, according to the entirety of Australia. Her Instagram game is on point in a serious way. She has a reputation for being even sassier than Beyoncé, and she’s 75% less likely to Photoshop thigh gap. It’s science, and Solange is winning.
3. Her Baby Doesn’t Define Her (Even Though He’s An Amazing Dancer)
Solange married her high school sweetheart when she was just 17, cranking out Daniel Julez. They were divorced by 21, an age where I was still falling down in heels regularly. To show her love for her firstborn child, they performed the cutest choreographed dance ever at her gorge wedding. I would’ve given anything to be on that wedding party bus, and not just because of Beyoncé. Solange could’ve been but a shadow in her sister’s ridiculously successful career, but she’s straight killing it on her own (and it looks like her son’s up next for stardom in this dynasty).
